Ernest Benn

1930.  A book in Very Good condition without Dust-Jacket.  The pages are bright and well bound, with foxing to the page edges.  There is a split between the book and back cover, but it is still fully attached.  The four maps are complete and in good order.  The covers are showing a little shelf wear, with fading to the spine.  Illustrated with the author’s own black & white photographs and maps by D L Browne.  The book itself is a very good copy, but included is a hand written greetings card.  The card is printed “To bring you every good wish for 1929.” with the hand written inscription “and a happy Xmas 1928. Love from Violet & Duncan”.  The inscription continues: “Do come visit us soon in our new home – we have nearly settled in now!.  You must come and give your blessing.”  Printed is “From Captain & Mrs Duncan McCallum, 7 Cheyne Walk, Chelsea, SW3.”  On the opposite page there is a picture of a car driving through a rocky terrain which has been stuck down with the printed description: “A rocky road in the Taurus Mountains” followed by a further inscription: “Peking to London – by car”.  This was obviously sent to close friends and forms a fascinating addition to this first edition book.

The Council of the City of Sydney

1952.  Very Good condition book in a Good+ DJ. There are no makes or inscriptions.  The pages are bright and remain tightly bound.  There is some fading to the edges of the front and rear feps.  The boards have warped.  The DJ has faded and has a number of closed tears.  There is a dedication plate stuck to the front fep to “Captain Bernard C Frost” SIGNED by the Lord Mayor (Ernest Charles O’Dea), dated April 1952.  The plate marks the 7th Conference of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots Association.  A really interesting book depicting Sydney, Australia in the early 1950s in many stunning black & white photographs.  Approx. 12” x 12”. 1st Edition.
